I thought about this - the rise in fascism seems overwhelming at the moment, but there is an overreaction there of the elites to climate activism that is definitely in the territory of strategic mistake / risk of backfiring. And I wonder what that is if not an admission of vulnerability.
Yes, Jem Bendell calls it 'elite panic.' Certainly the increasingly extreme behaviour of the rich and powerful hints at desperation, as well as ideological commitment.
